Save the Old Pool Filter Cartridge
I wrote an article recently on phosphates in the pool water, explaining what phosphates were and how they can affect your swimming pool water. You may read the article here: Yikes! It's Raining Again... When treating phosphates you can use Phos Free or some similar product to remove the phosphates. However, this product does tend to create a build up on your pool filter cartridge. It was time for me to replace my old cartridge a few weeks ago. So after I installed the new cartridge in the filter I saved the old cartridge. I cleaned it very well, then I let it dry in the sun. After it was completely dry I brushed it with a nylon brush to remove any loose, dried particles. I am storing the pool filter cartridge in my garage and when my phosphate level get high again (we have a lot of trees around) I will place to old cartridge in my filter during the week I treat my pool with PhosFree. After a week, I will remove the old cartridge, clean it and reinstall my newer cartridge...just a suggestion.
